The challenge was fun and the team seemed to enjoy doing it. We were reminded with the challenge to enjoy nature and impact our self improvement with eco sustainability.

Who is most affected by environmental degration and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?

People of Color are more effected by environmental degradation because they often live nearer to pollution sites. This can result in higher rates of asthma and dead/disabilities related to asthma and other conditions.

Wow, it's the last day of the challenge. I took a lunchtime walk and apparently 1p isn't late enough for the heat to abate. I really have to plan for the upcoming weather so I can still get movement. I went old school and bought a jump rope and I can use it at breaks in the garage as it is cool there. I can exercise and still be outdoors just not get heatstroke!

Day 12: great job, team! It's a beautiful day outside - wonderful way to end this challenge. I also enjoyed reading everyone's daily posts and reflections. :)

Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

Human's relationship with nature is of "give and take" - you take something from nature and you give something to it. If it's only taking from nature then there would be an imbalance. If you cut a tree, plant another so our generations to come would enjoy same resources as we do.

Doing some research on food deserts, which included finding out what a food desert it. Walking to/from the grocery store is one of my favorite urban exercise/errand. It's hard to imagine not having a grocery store or some purveyor of fresh food close enough to walk to!

I recall when our city had fruit stands on almost every corner. I miss those times as it was easy to stop and get it on the way home from anywhere in the city!

I'm glad that there's a small market within a short-walking distance from my home, and several more within a few minutes drive.
