Reflection QuestionFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Vicki Cheng 4/28/2021 5:00 PMI've been slowly chipping away at Seaspiracy and it's quite an eye opener. Less than 3% of pacific bluefin tuna remains. Compared to decades ago, it was once thriving. The documentary focused on a Japanese fishing town where they blame dolphins for eating too many fishes. In reality, the tuna industry are using dolphins as a scapegoat for their overfishing. Hence, dolphins are slaughtered on a daily basis and the tuna industry can wash off ecological responsibility.-
Teresa A. 4/29/2021 12:09 PMI have that documentary on my watch list. O_O -
Jenifer P. 4/29/2021 7:17 AMTuna has been an issue since I was a kid and it is sad to see it has gotten so much worse!

Vicki Cheng 4/27/2021 2:56 PMSince the pandemic, I've switched over to buying dried fruits, nuts, and seeds from Sun and Swell Foods. The food packaging is compostable and so is the shipping tape! I'm trying out a shampoo soap bar from them. It doesn't smell as nice as my bottled shampoo... -
Reflection QuestionHealth Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my HomeTo what extent do you believe that environmental factors contribute to your own health or issues with health?
Vicki Cheng 4/27/2021 2:42 PMAir quality is a big environmental factor on our health. We might not realize it, but items we purchase effects our air quality and that means our lungs.
In 2018, I purchased a guest bedroom set. Till this day, I leave the window open to air out that piece of furniture. Whatever paint/chemical the manufacturer used, it triggers my air purifier as high levels of VOC in the air. High levels of VOC is irritating to the respiratory system. We spend 6-8 hours a night breathing in that chemical and not realize it.
Another example we can all relate is the mask we wear. We're trying to find the most comfortable mask that won't fog up our glasses. However, have you considered the material before purchasing? Is it synthetic or organic cotton? If it's synthetic, these are chemically treated and we're breathing the fibers into our lungs.

Jenifer P. 4/27/2021 3:32 PMGreat point about the mask materials and the fact we are breathing that in.

Vicki Cheng 4/21/2021 1:34 PMAs the pandemic is still going on, we are washing hands frequently and that means more plastic bottles. Prior to the pandemic, I've switched over to using Blueland's soap products. The soap dispenser is made from glass, and the soap are refill tablets. The tablets are individually packaged, however, it is compostable. This has helped cut down on single plastic use in my home.-
Jenifer P. 4/21/2021 3:44 PMWhat a great idea! I agree we wash our hands so much....to the point I now need lotion as my hands get so dry. I went shopping to find hand soap that is not as drying. -
Teresa A. 4/21/2021 1:35 PMInteresting! I love glass containers. :)

Reflection QuestionSimplicity Less Screen TimeWhat did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?
Vicki Cheng 4/21/2021 1:17 PMMy eyes are not as tired from staring at a screen all day. It wasn't hard at all to choose other activities, because there are plenty of things to clean, rearrange, fix around the house. I was gathering old clothes to donate. Made some fresh jalapeño (from my Gardyn) and cheddar bread. -
Reflection QuestionSimplicity De-Clutter My HomeHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?
Vicki Cheng 4/21/2021 1:02 PMStart with want vs. need. Try not to buy things that are not necessary or something that is higher quality. If items are not used in a year, time to donate or see if a friend/family member could use it. -
